Day-by-day Flow

Day 1

Arrival in Jammu → Katra | Vaishno Devi Yatra

Arrive at Jammu Airport where our representative will assist with your transfer to Katra (approx. 2 hrs). Check in at the hotel & rest. Begin your pilgrimage to Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Bhawan. You may choose to ascend: • On foot (14 km well-paved track) • Pony / Palki (direct payment) • Helicopter (subject to availability) Trek Route Overview: Katra / Banganga → Charan Paduka → Adhkuwari → Bhawan (Approx. 6–7 hours one way, depending on pace) Overnight hotel at Katra or near Bhawan.

Day 2

Bhawan → Katra → Jammu / Departure

After Darshan, descend to Katra. On arrival, freshen up at the hotel. Depending on your departure schedule relax at leisure or explore the local market or transfer to Jammu Airport for onward journey.

How this trip unfolds

Is Yatra Registration compulsory? Where can it be done?

Yes. RFID Yatra Registration is mandatory for all pilgrims. Without valid registration, Darshan is not permitted.

  • Available at YRC (Main Bus Stand, Katra) and YRC-II (Udhampur Road)
  • Timings: 6:00 AM – 10:00 PM
  • Carry valid Government ID
  • Must cross Banganga Check Post within 6 hours of registration
  • Required for helicopter passengers as well

What is the trekking distance and route?

  • Total distance (one way): 13–14 km
  • Approx. time: 6–7 hours
  • Route: Katra → Banganga → Charan Paduka → Adhkuwari → Bhawan
  • Bhawan to Sanjichhat Helipad: approx. 2.5 km
  • Track is well paved, lit and secure. Ponies, palkis and porters available (at own cost) 💡 Night trek is recommended to avoid daytime heat and crowd rush

What are Darshan timings and how does the queue system work?

  • Darshan is open 24 hours throughout the year
  • Temple closes during Morning & Evening Aarti (approx. 2 hours each)
  • On reaching Bhawan: • Obtain your Group Number immediately • Entry is allowed in batches (approx. 200 pilgrims per group) • Waiting time depends on rush • Collecting the group number first is mandatory before resting or using lockers

What are the helicopter guidelines?

  • Route: Katra – Sanjichhat – Katra
  • Approx. fare: ₹2100 one way per person (subject to revision + taxes)
  • Reach helipad 1 hour before departure
  • Carry: Yatra Registration Slip, Valid ID, Credit/Debit card used for payment
  • Services operate subject to weather & operational clearance ⚠️ Book only through official Shrine Board channels. Avoid agents/touts

What should we carry for the Yatra?

  • Valid Photo ID
  • RFID Yatra Card
  • Comfortable sports shoes
  • Light woollens (Bhawan is cooler)
  • Basic medicines if required
  • Walking stick (optional)
  • Travel light. Food, water and blankets are available en route

Are there restrictions inside Bhawan?

Yes. The following items are prohibited:

  • Mobile phones
  • Cameras & electronics
  • Leather belts
  • Handbags, purses
  • Pens, combs, loose articles
  • Free cloak room facilities are available at Katra, Adhkuwari & Bhawan

What facilities are available on the route?

  • Rest shelters (Vishram Sthals)
  • Toilets & drinking water
  • Bhojanalayas & refreshment counters
  • Basic medical aid & oxygen points
  • 24-hour ICU at Bhawan, Advance medical treatment is available only in Jammu
  • Accommodation (subject to availability) can be booked at: Katra, Adhkuwari, Sanjichhat & Bhawan via Niharika Complex, Katra

Important advisory for porters, ponies & luggage

  • Rates are fixed by Shrine Board
  • Confirm rates before hiring
  • Ensure service provider has valid registration
  • Note down ID number before handing valuables
  • Keep luggage packed if leaving hotel early for trek
  • Packed breakfast can be requested from hotel if required

Can this trip be planned differently?

Yes.

  • The itinerary can be extended to 2 Nights / 3 Days depending on Darshan timing or helicopter availability
  • Helicopter services are subject to weather conditions
  • Night ascent is more comfortable for trekkers
